The previous full Developer Forward offering has been discontinued. Developer Forward Lite remains available as a free, deterministic five-case experience. A broader Developer Forward course may return later in a traditional course format, but no paid destination is currently planned or promised.

Developer Forward focuses on the parts of engineering that remain consequential when implementation gets cheaper: what to trust, what to verify, what to delegate, what to promise, when to push back, and when to take the wheel back.

The work draws from more than forty real case families from Ben Chan's professional history, plus current AI-era experiments. Cases may be anonymized or composited where necessary to protect clients, employers, colleagues, confidential information, or identifying details while preserving the underlying decision pressure.

  • Can you trust AI-generated code?

    AI-generated code is only as trustworthy as the judgment encoded into it. If you can explain what the code should do in your own words, verify the test results with your own eyes, and ship it under your own name — that is when you can consider it trustworthy.

  • How do you verify AI-generated code?

    To verify AI-generated code, ask several AI models to explain it back to you with no context, or read it start to finish yourself. Time is the main factor in choosing between them. Either way, deterministic unit tests plus validation in production remain my North Star.

  • How much work can AI safely own?

    AI can safely own as much work as you can specify. Take what you would normally tell a human developer and then make it even more specific. AI is like a pinball machine: you have to place the flippers in the right spots to ensure the balls eventually reach their intended positions.

  • Is my engineering team ready for AI?

    Here is the readiness test. Grab a whiteboard, put the laptops away. Sketch your design. Does it make sense? Can you explain the plan without looking? If yes, your team is ready for AI.
