Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
BenChanTech.com is operated by Ben Chan Tech LLC. This policy describes how the site handles information for the current public website and how that handling may change as services grow.
This site now carries more than a routing foyer. It also carries a finite course, a set of pages describing how the site is run, and state that lives in the browser you are reading this in. This policy covers all of it. The course's own Data page shows the same facts for your browser specifically, and reading it is a supplement to this policy rather than a replacement for it.

Information collected
The site may collect ordinary technical information through hosting logs, such as IP address, browser, device, pages requested, timestamps, and error diagnostics. If Google Analytics is enabled, aggregate analytics may include page views, approximate location, device/browser information, and interaction events.
Analytics and cookies
BenChanTech may use GA4 through direct gtag.js collection. Analytics storage is denied by default unless a visitor allows analytics through the cookie notice. The site stores that consent choice in the browser.
Ben may receive only what is necessary to understand how the course is used, and only what the enabled analytics allow: ordinary page and route analytics, coarse curriculum engagement events, an anonymous signal that someone wants deeper practice, and — only if the first-party aggregate endpoint is ever enabled — aggregate counts for selected structured exercises. The event names are a closed list and the properties they may carry are a closed list, and no entry in either one is a learner's answer.
Two different things run here, on two different conditions. Ordinary page analytics run on every page of this site. Watch Your Step's own counts are a closed list, and none of them leaves a browser where analytics were declined or never allowed.
The first-party counter that would total up answers to the practice exercises is not built. Its switch is off, it has no address to send to, and there is no route on this site that could receive one, so an answer to a practice question does not leave the browser it was given in.

Current services
The current site is a public routing foyer and company information site. It does not currently provide user accounts, subscriptions, uploads, or server-side personalized user memory.
Alongside the routing foyer, the site now carries a finite self-serve course and a set of pages describing how the site is run. None of that added an account, a subscription, an upload, a comment box or any other place to type something that reaches a server.

Watch Your Step and this browser
Watch Your Step keeps your course state in this browser, under a single namespaced key called wys:v1. It holds whether you completed onboarding, your selected pace and time preference, where you are in the curriculum, which fictional exercises you completed, the choices you kept, your local rulebook, and whether you asked for deeper practice. Nothing in it is copied to a server, and the course keeps working if the browser refuses to store it at all.
There is no database behind the course and no login in front of it. A rulebook, a kept choice or a position in the curriculum exists in the browser that made it and nowhere else, which is also why none of it can be restored for you if you clear it.

wys:v1
onboarding choices, curriculum progress, kept judgments, the rulebook, deeper-practice interest and the last course route — removed by clear.
benchantech:developer-forward-lite:state
your five-case answers, the immutable local ledger of what you did, any optional notes you wrote, your optional local handle, unsent drafts and the derived result — kept by clear.
benchantech:developer-forward-lite:yy
the judgment you committed at each case checkpoint, the option you named as your closest alternative, any optional notes you wrote before or after committing, and the time and run each one belongs to — kept by clear.
bct_analytics_consent
whether analytics cookies were allowed or declined on this device — kept by clear.
The course’s own Data page shows what this browser is holding right now, and lets you download or clear it: See what this site knows about you.
Third-party services
The site may link to or use Vercel, Google Analytics, YouTube, Substack, yyandme.benchantech.com, yymethod.com, benchanviolin.com, and other public Ben Chan Tech LLC properties. Those services may process data under their own terms and privacy practices.
Technical infrastructure
Watch Your Step still runs on a website. Hosting, security, and limited analytics services may receive ordinary technical information needed to deliver or understand use of the site. The point is not “zero trust.” The point is to ask for the minimum trust required and disclose it.
Legal basis and retention
Where privacy laws require a legal basis, analytics may rely on consent and operational logs may be used to run and protect the site. Retention follows the settings and operational needs of the relevant hosting and analytics providers.
International transfers
Third-party providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Their own transfer mechanisms and terms apply.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, objection, restriction, portability, or withdrawal of consent. Contact Ben Chan Tech LLC to make a privacy request.
Children
This site is intended for a general professional and educational audience and is not directed to children under 13.
The course is designed so that a learner of thirteen or older could work through it safely, and the site does not ask anyone for an exact age or a date of birth to enforce that. Asking would mean collecting the sort of detail the course spends nine stops teaching people to hand over only when it changes the task.
